Skin and its Importance
|
| |
|
|
Skin is a vital
organ - our largest one - that regulates body
temperature, guards the internal organs and protects
our body from possible external infectious organisms.
In fact it can be termed as our first line of
defense. It also provides nourishment by converting
sunlight into vitamin D. Our skin is a mirror
of our health, happiness and our general well
being. It is very important that we treat it with
care and patience.
The skin of an adult has a surface area of
roughly 2 square meters and varies in thickness
from 0.5
|
mm in most regions to 3 mm on the soles of the feet.
It is tough and flexible and acts as a mechanical protection
for the underlying tissues. It is also a major sensory
surface.
Revent Skin Damage
Experts believe that upto 90 percent
of skin damage is due to prolonged sun exposure. Skin
ointments and treatments cannot do much once the skin
is badly damaged. It can revive to a certain extent
only. It is so much better to maintain a proper and
healthy life style that can automatically keep our
skin healthy and glowing. Sunscreens that block both
UVA and UVB rays are a good defense if we are out
in the sun. A balanced diet, regular exercise, adequate
rest and proper cleansing of the skin on a regular
basis are essential healthy and attractive skin.
